Map of Minneapolis, 1854

This map is the original town site map of Minneapolis, platted for John H. Stevens and Franklin Steele by Charles W. Christmas, the first surveyor of Hennepin County. Christmas’s decision to lay the streets out running roughly parallel to the river with cross streets at right angles became the base the city has worked with ever since.
